Pens Struggle on Penalty Kill

The Pens were coming off a great blow out win over the Islanders and were asleep at the wheel in this game and past the cost at the end of the game. The Flyers were 4-6 on the powerplay and the Pens were a lowly 1-5.

1st Period

I missed the start of the game sorry for that but the Flyers got up to a 2-0 goal lead on two powerplay goals the first one by Joffrey Lupul on a Matt Cooke stick holding penalty. The second one came from Mike Knuble after Boucher took a hooking penalty. The Flyers got away with two tripping penalties on Malkin and Crosby, but got Fedotenko into an interference penalty. Pens kill it and start to wake up and get into the game towards the end of the period and come up with nothing end of the first.

2nd Period

The start of the second period started much as the same way the first ended there was alot of 5-on-5 hockey unlike the first which was mostly shorthanded for both teams. The Pens were still blocking a ton of shots from the Flyers and Sabu still looks to be a little out of it by stepping to far from the net to get the shots that are wide of the net almost giving up a goal. About 7 minutes into the period Jordan Staal takes a pass from Alex Goligoski and backhands one in to make it 2-1 Flyers. The Flyers came back 3 minutes later when a pass for Dupuis was intercepted in the neutral zone by Mattew Carle and he set up Richards for a one timer and it's 3-1 Flyers. The Pens get gassed and start to fall apart and the Flyers take advantage of this and Hartnell was looking for someone to throw his glove at and deflects one in to make it 4-1.The period dwindled down as a defensive struggle started to drain out the period until a Malkin pass was intercepted in the neutral zone by Temonen who set up Richards for the shot that was deflected in by Knuble 5-1 Flyers. At this point the Flyers are 3-5 on the powerplay. I'm not a big fan of pulling the goalie but I think that maybe with the way Sabu has been playing in this one that maybe they should goto MAF to get him some ice time or maybe turn this thing around. End of the second 5-1 Flyers.

3rd Period

The 3rd period started out Sabourin still in net maybe Fleury really isn't fully ready to come back. The period starts out a little slow. At the 11:06 mark of the third the God of Thunder Eric Godard takes a pass from Sykora and puts one in 5-2 Flyers. A couple minutes later Godard kicks the crap out of Hartnell right off the face off, Hartnell fell to the ice like a little girl after God landed 2 punches and he takes a 5 minute major for fighting plus a 2 minute roughing minor for continuing to pound Hartnell after he fell to the ice in the fetal position. The Flyers got on the powerplay and pretty much sealed this one up with a goal deflected in by Jeff Carter. Towards the end of the Penguins powerplay Ruslan Fedotenko buries one to make it 6-3 in favor of the Flyers. Game over Pens lose to Philthydelphia 6-3 and the Flyers move ahead in the rankings in the East by 2-points the Flyers with 38 and the Pens 36.
