Pens Crap the Bed, Leafs Win

by: The PensNation Staff

Penguins VS Maple Leafs
3   7

The Penguins came home to take on the Maple Leafs looking to make it two in a row after laying the smackdown to Atlanta on Thursday night. I missed the game last night and I'm pretty glad I did after the show that was put on last night at Mellon Arena at one point in the first period the shots were 14-3 in favor of the Maple Leafs. Going from the higlights the Leafs simply outplayed the Pens from the drop of the puck, they had no answers to anything the Leafs were doing.

1st Period

The Lefs jumped on the board first on the powerplay after Dominic Moore backhanded one past Fleury to make it 1-0 Leafs. The Pens weren't going down easy at this point at about 2 minutes later Geno tickled the twine to make it 1-1. This is when it started to get ugly the Leafs tallied 2 more goals to round out the period and go into the first intermission up 3-1.

2nd Period

Coming into the second period the Pens down 3-1 and were looking to get back in the game, but they were unable to produce very much as this period was all Maple Leafs. The Leafs scored 2 more goals in the period to the whopping 0 score by the Penguins. This would doom the end of Fleury in this game as he would be pulled in favor af Sabu in the third.

3rd Period

Coming into the third with Sabu in net the Pens were looking to turn things around after being down 5-1. The Pens jumped right out 58 seconds in the period on the powerplay and Petr Gunn scored a quick goal to make it 5-2 in favor of the Leafs. But it was much of the same as the Maple Leafs tallied another 2 goals before Sykora put another one in, with a last desperation attempt for the Pens to get back in this one but it seemed too little too late with 3 minutes left and an insurmountable lead of 4 goals to overcome to force an overtime period.
