Penguins Shoot Past the Stars

by: The PensNation Staff

Penguins AT Stars
4   1

The Penguins continued the road show yesterday in the big D against the Stars. They came out firing and dismantled the the Dallas Stars in a rather easy fashion, they built up a 4-0 lead in the first 2 periods before surrendering 1 lowly goal to the Stars on a Hal Gill penalty. The Penguins are now 3-0 without Crosby maybe we should trade him.

Marc-Andre Fleury made 21 saves in a win over the Dallas Stars on 3/1/09

1st Period

Right off the bat Modano snaps a wrister towards the net and Fleury denies him. Not much later Staal takes the faceoff in the defensive and finds Malkin streaking down the ice, he unloads on Tobias Stephan and surrenders a nice juicy rebound to Jordan Staal who fires it in the open net 1-0 Pens.

And the FSN feed went out for pretty much the rest of the first period. Mike Lange on the call with Geno setting up Kris Letang for the goal 2-0 Penguins.

2nd Period

The Stars came out from the 1st intermission with a little steam wich quickly fizzled when Miroslav Satan intercepted a pass from Trevor Daley jukes Tobias Stephan out of his skates and puts the puck in the net 3-0 Penguinos. Moments later Malkin drops Sydor in the corner like a bad habit halting play while he peels himself off the ice. After the battle of the Chris's in the corner Krys Barch and Kris Letang the Pens go on the PowerPlay some Stars player tried to shoot the puck around boards, but it takes a crazy bounce off the boards and finds Malkin in front of the net for the goal 4-0 Pens.

3rd Period

The third period started and I thought I was in the middle of Ground Hog day while watching the Penguins start to shut things down but still managed to keep pressure on a Stars team who looked like they didn't want to be there and just wanted the game to be over. They allow the Stars to start to dominate the offensive zone and fire numerous shots on Flower until 1 finally went in while the U.S.S. Hal Gill was serving a interfernce penalty. The Stars fell apart towards the end here and took penalty after penalty denying any opportunity for them to pull the goalie and get the extra attacker on. Game over Pens win 4-1.

What I saw in the game.

  • Geno is ridiculous fighting all over the ice for the puck.
  • Fleury made some incredible saves again.
  • I really think the Pens were the winners in last weeks trade, I really like the play of Chris Kunitz.
  • Starting the long roadtrip 2-for-2 amazing.
  • First 3-game win streak since November. Wow it's been that long.
