Penguins Ride the Lightning to a Win

by: The PensNation Staff

Penguins VS Lightning
4   3

What a come back win for this club. I managed to skip the part of the game that consisted of the Pens digging themselves into a 0-3 hole in the first 2 periods. I did however catch the first half hour of the game and I began to flip back and fourth during the third mostly because I was looking for some crazy performance after the team was booed off the ice at the end of the second. It didn't take long for the Pens to harness those boos into energy and get on the board against the Lightning for the first time this season when Evgeni Malkin buried one 2 minutes in.

Pittsburgh Steeler Jeff Reed Dropped the Puck at Center Ice Before the game

1st Period

The Penguins were dominated in the first period they were only able to tally a measley 5 shots compared to the 14 by the Lightning. The Pens could not produce any offense what-so-ever this allowed Tampa Bay to get the early lead. The Penguins were also blanked on the 3 powerplay opportunities they had in the first basically because the couldn't gain the redline.

2nd Period

Missed this one on purpose and am I glad I did the boys looked so bad they were booed off the ice ot the end of the frame. 0-3 Tampa Bay.

3rd Period

The Penguins were able to harness the boos and turn them into energy tallying up 3 unanswered goals in the third to tie this one up and send it into extras. Geno was all over the ice in the third racking up a goal and an assist.

Overtime Period

It took almost the entire overtime period but the Penguins pulled it out when Geno shoved one buy McKenna with 16 seconds to go in the frame.

He really took the game over. It¢â‚¬â„¢s what you expect from your best player at crucial times and you could see the fire was in his eyes. He was ready to do everything that he can in his power to try to win this hockey game and he was a true leader tonight on the ice. - Michel Therrien

Every player thinks, ¢â‚¬ËœI need score and play hard.¢â‚¬â„¢ I try because we losing and because we need to play playoffs. - Evgeni Malkin
