Penguins VS Thrashers

It was the Evgeni Malkin show at the Mellon Arena last night. After taking the day off on Monday with an undisclosed inllnes, Geno came out and racked up a 5-point performance for the ages he finished the night with 2 goals and 3 assists. Geno wasn't the only one taking care of business Gonch, Staal, Kunitz, and Eaton also added a goals of their own.

I turned the game on and turned away to look some up on the ole computer and bam the Thrashers are up 1-0, what happened I completely missed what happened. But the Pens wouldn't be out done after missing a few wide open the nets the Penguins finally got onto the board when Gonch rocketed a shot from the point to tie the game up at 1-1. The Pens continued to dominate the Thrashers throughout the period as Atlanta struggled to stay out of the sin bin. As time was winding down on the period Thrasher Brett Sterling took a tripping penalty and Chris Kunitz made him pay by putting the Pens in the lead with the second power play goal of the night 2-1 Pens.

Once again I managed to miss the start of another period, this time I decided I wanted some buffalo chicken wings and that it couldn't wait, so I missed the Jordan Staal goal but managed to make it back to the game for the Malkin goals the first one Geno juked Moose out of his skates and put behind the net and the second Malkin just launched a 300mph puck around Hedberg's head to put the Penguins up 5-1. It didn't take long for the Thrashers to storm back and get lucky when Fleury lost the puck allowing it to flutter by him to give the Thrashers a 2nd goal on the evening. Malkin had a few other chances to get the Hat Trick in the period but failed to do so period over 5-1 Penguinos.

The third period was for the most part uneventful, there were a few key moments in between the Geno chants from the crowd. Mark Eaton got on the scoresheet for his 3rd goal of the season halfway through the period. Malkin had a breakaway with 3 minutes left but got tripped up while he was shooting, giving him the chance for a penalty shot, Malkin tried to confuse Hedberg with a little dance as he skated down the ice no luck, Moose denies him. After some unsuccessful attempts at the hat trick for Malkin the game came to an end as the Penguins get the win 6-2 and the 2 points in the standings pulling them even with the Flyers.
