It’s Always Sidney in Philadelphia

Penguins AT Flyers
5   1

The Pens dealt the buisness to the Flyers Saturday night and propelled themselves into a tie with the New York Islanders for first place in the Atlantic Division. The game started out pretty boring with the Flyers notching the first goal early in the first period and the Pens tied it up shortly there after on a Chris Kunitz breakaway. The game was pretty much a borefest for rest of the opening frame and about 19 minutes of the 2nd frame when Letestu notched what would become the game winner in the waining seconds of the period. In the third period the non-existent Pens Power Play came to life as the Flyers started to get restless and gave the Penguins almost 7 straight minutes of PP time to start the period which even the worst special teams unit can convert into points as the Penguins took a 3 goal lead on 2 Sidney Crosby slappers. The idiots that they are the Flyers pulled the goalie with just under 4 minutes to play allowing Cooke to add the empty netter insurance goal.

Thoughts on the game. The Penguins came out rather slow and the game had the looks of a beatdown by the Flyers as the Pens struggled to staty out of the defensive zone but the defense played great and Johnson held down the fort. After being ejected from the game Friday night against the Islanders Kris Letang came out and played balls to the wall putting his body on the line to block shots on a couple of 2-on-1 Flyer breakaways. If the defense continues to play like this once Orpik and Michalek are back the Pens may be unstoppable. Another great perfomance from Brent Johnson moved him to 3-0 to start the season, do I smell goalie conterversy. I think the job is still Fleury's but as history has shown once MAF feels that his starting job is being threatend he goes on to play some of the best hockey of his life, case in point the 2008 playoffs when he had Ty Conklin nipping at his heels. So look for Fleury to have a breakout game in one the next couple depending on what the rotation Byslma decides to go with. The Penguins come back home to CEC to take on the Ottawa Senators Moday night at 7:00pm.
