Free Hat Night at the Igloo

by: The PensNation Staff

Penguins VS Islanders
9   2

I hope you didn't miss that one, because it was one hell of a game for the Pens atleast. Petr Sykora and Pascal Dupuis both recorded their first career hat tricks during the game something no Penguin has done since Mario Lemieux and Joey Mullen accomplished it April 9, 1993, against the New York Rangers. John Curry was in net and played beautifully considering he didn't see alot of action on his end.

Free Hats for Petr Sykora

Period 1:

Dupuis got the game started about 6 minutes in slapping a puck bye Joey Macdonald to open the scoring for the Pens. After this is when the Islanders started to fall apart they took some penalties allowing the Pens to get on the powerplay and next thing you know Bing to Cooke to Satan buried in the back of the net 2-0 Pens. About 4 minutes later Cooke gets called for tripping goes to the sin bin and all it took was one shot from Mark Streit and the lamp was lit 2-1 Pens. But Petr Gunn say no we ain't losing and he tickles the twine off a beautiful pass from Geno to make it 3-1 'guins. About 40 ticks of the clock later Bobby Boucher buries a heady slapper in the back of‚  the net. End of the first 4-1 Pens.

Period 2:

The Islanders come out and change goalies right away hoping to change things up and stop all the Penguins scoring in comes Yann Danis. The Pens goto work right away on Danis as Geno takes a pass from Goligoski and lights the lamp 2 minutes into the period 5-1 Pensguins wow this is starting to get ugly. They weren't done yet Sykora comes out of the box after serving the penalty for too many men on the ice and buries it. Uh oh is Gunn going to finally get his long awaited hat trick 6-1 Da 'Guins. Short while later it looks as iff he did get it I mean the puck did go in but the ref blew the whistle and called it off. Not to be denied Crossby dances around with the puck finds Petr Gunn lurking in front of the net BAM he shoots and scores Skyora gets the hat trick 7-1 Pens. After a brief delay after they stopped to replace the lamps in the goal lights from being lit too much the game resumes. Near the end of the second frame Dupuis gets to work on his hat trick puts one in 8-1 Penguins. End of the second.

Period 3:

This period was as exciting as the first two but it was still good. The Islanders were visibly frustrated they were taking stupid penalties and trying to start fights with the Penguins players and the only thing I was looking for in this period since the game was well in hand was that everyone made it out of this one without injury. No one scored in this period until around 11 minutes in when Sutton scored one for the helpless Islanders to make it 8-2 Pens. After this it was all about Dupuis they were all trying to get him the hat trick like they did for Sykora. After a little work Cooke found Dupuis skating down the ice backhand and in hat trick number 2 on the night and the first for one Pascal Dupuis 9-2 'guins game over see ya next time.
